I have over 20 years management experience having worked in HMRC for 16 years as a Team Manager. Whilst employed with HMRC, in 2014 I took up a part time care in the community post and I have to say I absolutely loved the job along with the satisfaction the post gave me when caring for vulnerable adults within my own community, therefore I left HMRC in 2018 to work in care full time.
After working as a part time carer for those four years, and after I had left HMRC I was then promoted to Branch Manager in 2018 within the same care company. I have good knowledge and background in all aspects of care and management and have expertise in working with vulnerable adults within the community.
In July 2020 I joined the Prestige team as Branch Manager in Dundee. I was extremely pleased to join Prestige as they provide exceptional care which is evident by their Care Inspectorate ratings. It was very important to me to join at company that was focused on providing high standards of home care. The Dundee branch provides a variety of care, including private care, such as social care and 24 -hour complex packages. In addition to this, we also deliver contracted care for Dundee City Council.
Providing great care to those that need it is extremely important to me, which is why I undertook a position in community care for a period of time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sophie is a registered adult nurse with over 30 years’ experience working within hospitals and in the community. Since qualifying at Leeds general Infirmary Sophie spent many years working in intensive care, she has also been a Nurse case manager for clients receiving complex care at home, a registered manager for adults receiving homecare, and latterly back in the NHS as a Matron in a large acute hospital trust.
Sophie’s role at Prestige as part of the Clinical Team, means she is responsible for overseeing safe compassionate care for adult clients, including those with complex needs. She says ‘I have strong leadership and management experience of not only in homecare but also with those who have complex clinical needs’. Sophie’s role also includes a focus on safeguarding.
Sophie wanted to work with Prestige as this offered her the opportunity to work in an environment that puts the client at the heart of everything they do and live the values of client centred care.
She says ‘as a registered professional I believe that working with Prestige Nursing and care offers the highest level of role satisfaction knowing that the client is front and centre of our services’.
Sue has worked at Prestige Nursing & Care since 2018. She is a registered mental health nurse and has over 20 years’ experience supporting individuals and families affected by dementia.
During this time, Sue has held positions in community mental health services, healthcare research and higher education. Her doctorate focused on resilience and well-being in friends and family members who provide care and support to a person living with dementia.
Sue’s role at Prestige focuses on ensuring our services enable people with dementia to remain in their own homes, receiving person-centred care that builds their confidence, skills and promotes well-being. Sue set up a carers support group for families living with a rare dementia in 2017. This regional group is affiliated to Rare Dementia Support (RDS), a world-leading UK-based service provided by the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC) funded by The National Brain Appeal.
She was a committee member on the recently published NICE Guideline for Supporting adult carers [NG150] and is currently working with the NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee for this guideline. Sue has worked as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission since 2013, supporting the Commission’s regulatory activity in adult social care services for people with living dementia.
I qualified as Registered General Nurse in January 1979 following the completion of a combined programme of study at the University of Surrey (BSc Human Biology) and St George’s Hospital, London. I gained a wealth of experience in a variety of care and healthcare settings. Whilst working in a community hospital in Scotland, I developed a keen interest and passion for working with Older People. This resulted in me becoming a Ward Manager, and subsequently a Unit Manager in Older People’s Continuing Care at Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. Following four years as a Manager for Older People’s Services at Northwick Park Hospital and Clinical Nurse Specialist at Chapel Allerton Hospital part of the United Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where I began teaching.
I moved to teach in Higher Education and undertake research at Liverpool John Moores University. I taught Research Skills and Evidence Base Practice, in addition to leading the Specialist Practitioner Programme for nurses providing care and support to older people. I became involved in teaching both clinical skills and manual handling. I have now taught manual handling for 40 years and I am a member of the National Back Exchange. I am currently studying for a Master in Ergonomics and Human Factors (Community and Hospital Care).
I joined Prestige Nursing & Care in 2011, as a Registered Nurse in Liverpool and then later becoming the trainer for the North Region. I became the Regional Nurse Trainer for Scotland in 2018 and Regional Nurse for Scotland in 2020. Throughout my time at Prestige, I have been supporting clients with complex care needs, from children and young adults to older adults living with a range of conditions. In my role as Regional Trainer in Scotland I train and support our carers to be able to deliver high standards of nurse-led care, supporting the development of their skills for the future.

CARE MANAGEMENT IN DUNDEE
Our responsive and reliable care at home service in Dundee means we can put care and support in place quickly and in many cases within 24-hours. Depending on your needs a comprehensive assessment will be conducted by either a registered nurse or our local care expert. We can conduct the assessment at your home, in hospital or in any specialist care setting if you are awaiting discharge back to your own home, enabling a plan of care and support to be developed that meets all your needs.
Our approach to care planning, whether it is for an hourly home care service, respite care or a permanent live-in care arrangement ensures we capture all your preferences and wishes so you can live a contented life in the comfort of your own home. We take time to find the carer that would best meet your care and support needs, making sure they are closely aligned with how you wish to live your life. Once care is in place, our team in Dundee made up of care and clinical experts provide you, your family and our carer with an abundance of on-going support, giving you peace of mind that you or your loved one is receiving the very best home care.
COST OF OUR CARE IN DUNDEE
The cost of our care is dependent on the level of care and support you require. If you are receiving our hourly care service, the overall cost will be determined by the number of visits and frequency of visits to you at home. Our experts will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your needs at your home, or in Ninewells Hospital and Royal Victoria if you are awaiting discharge to truly understand what you need and therefore how much care at home will cost.
We know that the cost of our care in Dundee is very competitive when compared with other home care providers in the area. It is worth noting that when comparing the cost of home care with a care package in a care home, that the fee you pay for home care is actually for the care and support you receive. In a care home your weekly fee mainly covers your accommodation, food and social activities with the care package being only a small part of what you pay.
You may be entitled to social care funding in Scotland that could contribute to the cost of care at home. If you are faced with having to finance your own home care (known as self-funding care), there are initiatives available to you, including care fees annuities or equity release schemes that could provide the funds you need for your care and support.
