We have been trusted by families up and down the country to provide care for all of life, evolving the level and type of care we provide to meet changing needs.

YOUR HOME IS BEST FOR KNEE AND HIP REPLACEMENT CARE

We know through our experience of supporting thousands of people and their families, that faced with the prospect of needing long-term care and support for those with knee and hip replacement care needs that most people would prefer to stay in the safety, comfort and familiarity of their treasured home and not endure the disruption caused from a move away.

For many a move from home can cause much upset, worry and for some confusion. Having routines imposed on how you live, leaving your loved one, feeling isolated from family and friends or your local community are all common concerns experienced by those facing a move into a care home, specialist care setting or facing a prolonged stay in hospital.

Staying at home with home care after knee or hip replacement surgery means that you can continue to live life your way, whilst benefitting from one-to-one care provided by a competent and compassionate carer.  They will focus on effectively managing your post-operative care needs, so you can have an improved quality of life with enhanced well-being.  Care at home enables you to remain independent and live your life with choice, whilst assisting you to successfully meet rehabilitation and reablement goals.

WHAT IS KNEE AND HIP REPLACEMENT CARE?

Problems with our hips and knees occur as we naturally age but can also be caused through other conditions or injuries.  For many these problems can be resolved using pain management techniques or alternative therapies, but for some more specialist medical treatments are needed, including replacements to cure disease and repair injuries.

What causes hip pain?

Hip pain can be brought on for several reasons causing pain in the hip joint, which result in pain on the inside of the hip or the groin.  Pain on the outside of the hip, upper thigh or buttock is usually caused by problem with muscles, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues that surround the hip joint.  For many hip pain is caused by osteoarthritis a form of arthritis where there is gradual wear and tear of the surfaces in the hip.  Other diseases in other parts of the body, like the lower back or knees can result hip pain – this is called referred pain.

What causes knee pain?

The knee joint is the largest and most complex joint in the body.  It is therefore the most stressed joint in the body, enduring significant wear and tear. The most common reason that people experience knee pain is due to a type of arthritis – osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or traumatic arthritis.  Other factors can contribute to knee pain including development abnormalities, repetitive injuries and obesity.

Knee and hip replacement surgery

When you are living with permanent and underlying pain in the hip or knee joint it can be debilitating and really impact how you live your life.  Reduced mobility and on-going pain management can become too restrictive and burdensome impacting quality of life, so many choose to have a full or partial replacement of the joint.

The benefits of surgery for a knee or hip replacement include a decrease in pain, improved mobility and movement, regained independence and confidence and an improved overall quality of life.  Whilst you will need a comprehensive rehabilitation programme, with the right care and support you can achieve successful outcomes.   Recovery from these procedures often takes many weeks and sometimes months so care after hip replacement surgery can aid and assist recovery time.

If you need support at home following knee and hip replacement surgery, our carers provide reablement care that enables you to relearn skills following surgery through goal-focussed care at home that involves intensive time-limited assessment and therapy intended to reduce the need for a long-term care arrangement or readmission to hospital.

We provide outcome-based rehabilitation at home following knee or hip surgery that supports an individual with mobility, physical development and mental health well-being.  We work collaboratively with our clients and their families to develop a thorough care and support plan that accurately reflects a person’s holistic needs.  We also adopt a partnership approach to working with local authority partners, NHS services, multidisciplinary teams, therapists and other community bodies involved in a person’s care.  This means we are well-informed so we can provide continuity of care ensuring the right care is in place at the right time, whilst responding efficiently to changing needs and strengthening care provision when required.

COST OF KNEE AND HIP REPLACEMENT CARE

The cost of knee and hip replacement care is dependent on the level of care and support you require.  If you are receiving our hourly knee and hip replacement care the overall cost will be determined by the number of visits and frequency of visits to you at home. Our experts will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your needs at your home, or in hospital if you are awaiting discharge to truly understand what you need and therefore how much knee and hip replacement care at home will cost.

We know that our cost of knee and hip replacement care is very competitive when compared with other home care providers.  It is worth noting that when comparing the cost of home care with a care package in a care home, that the fee you pay for home care is actually for the care and support you receive.  In a care home your weekly fee mainly covers your accommodation, food and social activities with the care package being only a small part of what you pay.

You may be entitled to either social care funding or healthcare funding to contribute to the cost of knee and hip replacement care at home.  There may also be other Government initiatives available and local authority support. If you are faced with having to finance your own home care (known as self-funding care), there are initiatives available to you, including care fees annuities or equity release schemes that could provide the funds you need for your care and support.
