HIGH-QUALITY RESPITE CARE AT HOME FOR BILL AND AGNES
Bill has been caring for his wife, Agnes, in their own home. Agnes is 80 years old and bed bound following a stroke five years ago.
Once discharged from hospital Prestige Nursing & Care was approached by the couple’s local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to see how they could support Bill to look after Agnes. The care package put in place by Prestige Nursing & Care meant that Agnes’ nursing care needs were being met by our highly trained carers, with oversight by our clinical experts affording Bill a respite break from caring for Agnes full time.
In supporting Bill and Agnes, our carer, Joanne spends every Tuesday at the couple’s home. Bill is given back his independence, allowing him to focus on his garden and make the most of his own time.
Bill comments about the care provided by Prestige Nursing & Care: “My wife gets on so well with the carer. They are literally the best of friends. Joanne is absolutely fantastic, but the biggest effect the arrangement has had, is on me. She gives me peace of mind that whilst I am not with Agnes, she is receiving the best care. I leave Joanne in charge of Agnes and they are always laughing. This means so much to me.“
In addition to weekly respite care, Prestige Nursing & Care also provide care during the night for Agnes. This means that Bill is able to sleep soundly knowing that Agnes is safe, and her needs are being met throughout the night.
Over the past five years Agnes has required Prestige Nursing & Care to help with drinking and eating, continence and personal care. Her paralysis also means she needs physical and emotional support. Prestige Nursing & Care matched Joanne to provide care to Agnes as she has a wealth of experience caring for people following a stroke.
Bill explains: “I have complete faith in Prestige Nursing & Care. The local team are very supportive and will bend over backwards to help us. Every Tuesday I put my trust in Prestige Nursing & Care – hearing Agnes and Joanne laughing downstairs allows me to enjoy time alone with complete peace of mind.”
