National Carers Week: An opportunity to appreciate amazing carers

Carers do an amazing job, and here at Comfort Keepers we know that more than most! We also know that they often do not get the appreciation they deserve for doing such challenging work. So today we’d like to highlight the annual National Carers Week that will take place in June.

What is National Carers week?

National Carers Week celebrates carers and the incredible work that they do. In 2016, it will be held during the week of June 6th to 12th, and you can find out all about it at the official website.

This annual campaign raises awareness of carers and highlights the challenges they face. It also recognises the enormous contribution they make to society.

The focus this year is on “Building Carer Friendly Communities”, meaning communities that support carers better, helping them to look after their family members or friends, as well as understanding that carers have their own needs.

How you can help with National Carers Week

There are many ways that you can help this year, one of which is to hold your own event to celebrate carers. Last year, 1,600 events were held across the UK, and this year they are aiming for more.

You will find a guide on the website to help you organise an event, and you can then add your event to the events directory so other people can find out about it. You can also receive a resource pack to help you prepare.

Even if you cannot run an event, you could still go along to one. Find out what is going on in your area and try to attend and show your support.

Or you could simply recommend organisations and employers in your community that are carer friendly, which help lead to better Carer Friendly Communities. You can also ask organisations to become carer friendly and refer them to the website.

You can also simply pledge your support. You can do this at the website, and you can then show your support by sharing the word on social media. You could even ask local politicians and business leaders to pledge their support as well.

Spread the word

If you are a carer, or you know a carer, you will already know just how amazing the work they do is. Now is your opportunity to shout about it and show your support.

Use Carers Week as a chance to tell the world how amazing carers are and make some noise about it. Send out some flyers, contact your MP, stick up a poster, and do anything that you can to tell other people how great they are.

Carers do an incredible job, and they often do not receive the recognition they deserve. National Carers Week is the perfect opportunity to show carers up and down the country just how important they are and how much their work is appreciated.
