At home ventilator care

Caring for a loved one who requires ventilator support at home can be challenging, but with the right care, it’s possible to ensure both safety and comfort. At Prestige Nursing & Care, we specialise in providing professional at home ventilator care, offering personalised support to help individuals lead fulfilling lives within the comfort of their own homes. Our skilled nurses and carers are fully trained in ventilator management, ensuring that your loved one receives the highest level of care tailored to their unique needs.

Your home is best for ventilated care

Through our experience of supporting thousands of individuals and their families, we understand that when faced with the need for long-term ventilator care, most people prefer to remain in the safety, comfort, and familiarity of their own homes.

Staying at home with ventilator care allows you to continue living life on your terms, with the benefit of one-to-one support from a skilled and compassionate carer. Our carers provide personalised care that enhances your quality of life and overall well-being, ensuring your needs are met with dignity and respect.

Home-based ventilator care helps you maintain as much independence as possible, allowing you to live with choice and flexibility, free from the rigid schedules of residential care settings.

What is ventilated care?

Ventilator care involves the management and support of individuals who require assistance with breathing through a mechanical ventilator. This type of care is necessary for people with respiratory conditions, neurological disorders, or other health issues that affect their ability to breathe independently. A ventilator helps by delivering oxygen to the lungs and removing carbon dioxide, ensuring stable respiratory function.

At home ventilator care allows individuals to receive this critical support in the comfort of their own homes, rather than in a hospital or clinical setting. It involves not only the operation and maintenance of the ventilator equipment but also ongoing monitoring, care coordination, and ensuring the patient’s overall well-being. This specialised care is tailored to meet the individual’s needs and can include tasks like managing airways, monitoring oxygen levels, infection control, and providing routine care to maintain comfort and prevent complications.

Our approach to ventilated care

At Prestige Nursing & Care, we provide specialised ventilator care services that allow you to live comfortably and safely in your own home. Our care is tailored to your individual needs, empowering you to maintain control over your lifestyle and the level of support you receive. Our focus is on enhancing your quality of life, helping you stay as active and socially engaged as you choose.

Our skilled carers are experienced in managing the complexities of ventilator care, addressing common challenges such as respiratory management, infection control, and equipment monitoring. We prioritise proactive care to prevent complications, encouraging healthy practices like proper nutrition, breathing exercises, and regular movement where possible.

By working closely with you and your family, we develop personalised care plans that address your physical, emotional, and social needs. We also coordinate with local authorities, NHS services, multidisciplinary teams, and community organisations to ensure seamless, well-rounded care that adapts to your changing circumstances.

With Prestige Nursing & Care, you can trust that our ventilator care services will prioritise your well-being, independence, and comfort in the familiar surroundings of your own home.

What does our at home ventilator care include?

Competent and compassionate carers

When you choose Prestige Nursing & Care, you can be reassured that the carer who cares for you or your loved one is expertly trained to provide the support you need to the high standards you should expect. All carers that join us complete our induction training programme, which goes above mandatory requirements.

We adopt a bespoke approach to training that ensures our carers have the knowledge, skills and aptitude to deliver high-quality home care that meets the needs of our clients. If a client is living with a condition that requires specialist clinical care, we will ensure they have all the training and support they need to provide effective care.

We are very proud of our carers – each and every one of them is dedicated to providing compassionate, sensitive and dignified home care that means our clients live a fulfilled and meaningful life, with independence and choice.

How we can provide ventilated care at home

Our trusted and established ventilated care at home service can be provided in the following ways:

Hourly care / visiting care

Hourly care or visiting care is for those who need extra support with the tasks of daily living or clinical care at certain times during the day. Care at home can be provided from a 60-minute visit per day to as many hours/visits throughout the day as you require. One day a week or several days, depending on your care and support needs.

Respite care

Respite care is a short-term arrangement after hospital discharge to rehabilitate or when a family carer needs a break from their caring role. It is also an ideal service for families who wish to assess whether care at home is the right care choice for them.

24-hour care

24-hour care is for people with substantial care needs who need round-the-clock support to live well at home. A team of dedicated carers will take turns being with you throughout the day and night, so you’re never left without the support you need.

What does our nurse-led care service include?

Our service is nurse-led and our carers are trained in the clinical skills required to provide care and support for complex, terminal, and other medical conditions. They are supported by an experienced, dedicated registered nurse who undertakes regular competency assessments to ensure high standards of care delivery and who provides clinical monitoring, supervision and support.

With this leadership and oversight, carers can perform many delegated healthcare tasks and clinical interventions at home, negating reliance on community district nursing teams, including:

Respiratory and airway support

  • Oxygen delivery and suctioning
  • Cough assist working in partnership with physiotherapists
  • Tracheostomy management
  • Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NIPPV) via masks – CPAP/BiPAP
  • Invasive ventilation via machines – Nippy

Feeding and supplementary support

  • NGT/PEG/gastrostomy management
  • Continuous/intermittent pump feeding

Elimination and toileting

  • Catheter care
  • Stoma care

Mobility

  • Skin integrity and pressure area care
  • Assistance with mobility aides to encourage safe moving and handling

Why choose prestige nursing & care?

See for yourself why our clients choose Prestige Nursing & Care to provide the dedicated care they need:

A fully managed service

Prestige Nursing & Care is not an agency. Unlike a home care agency, we provide a fully managed and regulated care at home service. This means our clients, their families, and our professional partners can be reassured that the care and support we provide is of the very highest quality. Families can focus on spending quality time together rather than managing the care arrangement.

CQC regulated care

Our service is inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England and the Scottish Care Inspectorate (SCI) in Scotland. We are proud that 96% of our inspected services have been rated as providing a ‘Good’ service, with 4% rated ‘Outstanding’ in England.

Our accredited service for complex care, which meets local and national quality standards and ensures a consistent approach to the care we provide, provides peace of mind and reassurance that our service is of the highest quality.

Rigorous recruitment & training process

Our commitment to excellence starts with our care team. Our rigorous recruitment process ensures only the most qualified and dedicated individuals join our team. Our carers undergo comprehensive training to ensure they possess the skills, knowledge, and compassion required to provide exceptional care. All of our carers have at least six months of care or health sector experience before being placed with a client or community partner.

Care management local to you

Our responsive and reliable local nurse-led service allows us to put a care pathway and plan in place quickly and, in many cases, within 24 hours. We work in partnership with healthcare professionals, Case Managers, families, and personal injury lawyers to ensure we have an in-depth understanding of a client’s needs. Our local registered nurse will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your needs at home or in any specialist care setting, enabling a plan of care and support to be developed that meets all your needs.

Our approach to care planning, whether it is for an hourly, respite or live-in care service, ensures we capture all your preferences and wishes so you can live a contented life in the comfort of your own home. We take time to find the nursing carer that would best meet your nursing needs, making sure they are closely aligned with how you wish to live your life.

Once care is in place, our local teams, made up of care and clinical experts, provide you, your family and our carer with an abundance of ongoing support. This gives you reassurance that you or your loved one is receiving the very best complex care at home.
