Since working at Prestige I have continued to develop my skills and qualifications and am proud to have achieved a Skills First Level 3 Diploma in Business Management, Skills First Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services – Adults Management. I am currently working towards Skills First Level 5 Diploma in Operational and Departmental Management.

VANESSA BROOKS-OKE
REGIONAL CLINICAL LEAD
I began adult nursing in 2004 having previously spent around 20 years as a veterinary nurse in mixed practice. Since qualifying with a Dip. HE Nursing (Adult) from Plymouth University, I have gone on to gain experience in surgical urological care, including brachytherapy and hormonal implantation for control of prostate and bladder cancers. I also spent six years working in adult intensive and high dependency care for the NHS. This discipline involves care of the critically unwell involving expert and close monitoring of chemically induced coma care.
Throughout my career, I have developed and maintained a passion for teaching and have coached and mentored many members of both professional and allied staff in order to reach their potential. In my spare time, I actively volunteer for Cancer Research UK, and am Vice-Chairlady for the Bridgwater Friends branch in Somerset, which despite being small is very busy and the branch has recently celebrated raising one million pounds for the main charity.
As a Regional Clinical Lead with Prestige, I provide professional leadership and operational management to the registered nursing workforce, across the South West Region. Working alongside our expert regional nurse team I support all aspects of complex care provision ensuring every client receives compassionate high-quality care which is evidence based and aligned with best national practice guidance.
DR SUE JONES
CONSULTANT ADMIRAL NURSE
Sue has worked at Prestige Nursing & Care since 2018. She is a registered mental health nurse and has over 20 years’ experience supporting individuals and families affected by dementia.
During this time, Sue has held positions in community mental health services, healthcare research and higher education. Her doctorate focused on resilience and well-being in friends and family members who provide care and support to a person living with dementia.
Sue’s role at Prestige focuses on ensuring our services enable people with dementia to remain in their own homes, receiving person-centred care that builds their confidence, skills and promotes well-being. Sue set up a carers support group for families living with a rare dementia in 2017. This regional group is affiliated to Rare Dementia Support (RDS), a world-leading UK-based service provided by the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC) funded by The National Brain Appeal.
She was a committee member on the recently published NICE Guideline for Supporting adult carers [NG150] and is currently working with the NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee for this guideline. Sue has worked as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission since 2013, supporting the Commission’s regulatory activity in adult social care services for people with living dementia.
ANGELA STRACHAN
REGISTERED NURSE
I always knew I wanted to be a children’s nurse even when I was in primary school. I achieved this in 2000, when I completed my Registered Nursing (Child) qualification at Kings College, London.
My first role as a nurse was at Great Ormond Street Hospital where I worked on a general neonatal surgical unit specialising in gastro-intestinal conditions. After gaining valuable experience, I then joined two nursing agencies in London providing both support in complex care packages and various London hospitals in the private and NHS sectors on surgical and medical wards. In 2012, I joined a Children’s Community Team in London, where I worked for seven years. It was a hugely rewarding role, with much of my time spent providing care and treatment for children with cancer.
The experience I gained as a Children’s Community Nurse has proved invaluable in my current role at Prestige Nursing & Care in Shrewsbury as I am able to support our teams of carers and nurses, as well as the children and families we care for to ensure they get a high-quality and competent nurse-led service.
MARIE WHEELER
REGISTERED NURSE
I began nursing in 2003 having completed my nursing qualification with an Advanced Diploma in Adult Nursing. I first worked at Southampton General Hospital working in A + E, Neurology and Acute Medicine, and Cardiac High Dependency.
I then moved to Worthing and joined a local 20-bed nursing home as Clinical Lead, caring for people with late-stage dementia, supporting behaviour and mental health needs. In this role I played a pivotal part in improving compliance to meet CQC and adult services regulations. I was then promoted to Registered Manager and worked to achieve the Gold Standard Framework for end-of-life care for the home. During my time as a Registered Manager, I trained to teach safeguarding adults, continued to teach moving and handling, infection control and basic life support.
I joined Prestige in 2018 providing nursing care in hospitals, nursing homes and to people living in their own home as the Regional Nurse in Shrewsbury and other locations in the south west region. In my spare time I raise money for different charities, which include a 24-hour spin class for the MS Society last year.
KIM WHITLOCK
REGISTERED NURSE
I started my nursing career in 2013, having worked in the care home sector in a community setting. I graduated in 2016 with a BSc in Nursing from the University of West of England in 2016. I continued working in the community as a community nurse and then a community nurse team leader working to support a 200-patient caseload. Leading the team, we delivered person-centred care in the community for palliative patients, those with long term health condition and complex care needs working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. In 2017 I returned to the University of West England to further my clinical studies in physical assessment, clinical reasoning and facilitated learning. I was the practitioner of specialist interest for wound care within the district nurse team and I continue to have a strong interest in skin integrity and tissue viability.
On completion of my studies, I worked for a 78-bed care home as Deputy Manager, providing leadership for clinical care and nursing, delivering a high-quality person-centred care for pathway, complex nursing care and clinical intervention and advanced nursing dementia. I enjoy ensuring teams reach their full potential and are able to deliver the highest level of patient autonomy and person-centred care.
Prior to starting nursing, I had a career as a management consultant and latterly in the healthcare industry championing patient experience, something I remain passionate about.
