I am an Adult Registered Nurse, having qualified from Sheffield University in 2008 with an Adult Nursing Diploma. I continued with my studies to achieve my nursing degree in 2009. Whilst completing my studies I worked at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield on the acute medical ward supporting patients with clostridium difficile. As a new ward specifically caring for patients with this condition it was a challenging environment for me to develop my nursing skills.

I then decided to leave the NHS and joined a nursing home as Deputy Manager, caring for those with clinical needs, as well as those living with dementia. The home re-registered as a residential home, so as I wanted to continue nursing, I sought my next role.

Looking for a new challenge I relocated and took on a role as a Dialysis Nurse in Skegness, which I found hugely rewarding as it presented new challenges for me. However, I missed my family in Yorkshire so moved back in 2017 and joined Prestige Nursing & Care as a Registered Nurse supporting the North region to deliver high-quality complex care to adults and children. I feel very supported in my role at Prestige, and the team is dedicated to providing the high standards of nursing care I am passionate about.

I qualified as Registered General Nurse in January 1979 following the completion of a combined programme of study at the University of Surrey (BSc Human Biology) and St George’s Hospital, London. I gained a wealth of experience in a variety of care and healthcare settings. Whilst working in a community hospital in Scotland, I developed a keen interest and passion for working with Older People. This resulted in me becoming a Ward Manager, and subsequently a Unit Manager in Older People’s Continuing Care at Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. Following four years as a Manager for Older People’s Services at Northwick Park Hospital and Clinical Nurse Specialist at Chapel Allerton Hospital part of the United Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where I began teaching.

I moved to teach in Higher Education and undertake research at Liverpool John Moores University. I taught Research Skills and Evidence Base Practice, in addition to leading the Specialist Practitioner Programme for nurses providing care and support to older people. I became involved in teaching both clinical skills and manual handling. I have now taught manual handling for 40 years and I am a member of the National Back Exchange. I am currently studying for a Master in Ergonomics and Human Factors (Community and Hospital Care).

I joined Prestige Nursing & Care in 2011, as a Registered Nurse in Liverpool and then later becoming the trainer for the North Region. CARE MANAGEMENT IN LEEDS AND WEST YORKSHIRE

Our responsive and reliable care at home service in Leeds means we can put care and support in place quickly and in many cases within 24-hours.   Depending on your needs a comprehensive assessment will be conducted by either a registered nurse or our local care expert.  We can conduct the assessment at your home, in hospital or in any specialist care setting if you are awaiting discharge back to your own home, enabling a plan of care and support to be developed that meets all your needs.

Our approach to care planning, whether it is for an hourly home care service, respite care or a permanent live-in care arrangement ensures we capture all your preferences and wishes so you can live a contented life in the comfort of your own home.  We take time to find the carer that would best meet your care and support needs, making sure they are closely aligned with how you wish to live your life. Once care is in place, our team in Leeds made up of care and clinical experts provide you, your family and our carer with an abundance of on-going support, giving you peace of mind that you or your loved one is receiving the very best home care.

COST OF OUR CARE IN LEEDS

The cost of our care is dependent on the level of care and support you require.  If you are receiving our hourly care service, the overall cost will be determined by the number of visits and frequency of visits to you at home. Our experts will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your needs at your home, or in hospital if you are awaiting discharge to truly understand what you need and therefore how much care at home will cost.

We know that the cost of our care in Leeds is very competitive when compared with other home care providers in the area.  It is worth noting that when comparing the cost of home care with a care package in a care home, that the fee you pay for home care is actually for the care and support you receive.  In a care home your weekly fee mainly covers your accommodation, food and social activities with the care package being only a small part of what you pay.

You may be entitled to either social care funding, healthcare funding or Government funding that could contribute to the cost of care at home.  If you are faced with having to finance your own home care (known as self-funding care), there are initiatives available to you, including care fees annuities or equity release schemes that could provide the funds you need for your care and support.
