I have worked in the social care sector for over 10 years and have been with Prestige Nursing & Care in Bath for seven years.  During this time, I have gained vast experience having worked in a diverse range of roles including providing hands on care, coordinating care provision, and assessing clients ahead of services starting.   Like so many in the care sector, I started working in care to make a difference to people's lives and I still feel strongly about that today.  I am passionate about providing learning disability care and dementia care, working with individuals to improve their quality of life and their future opportunities. I am currently managing both the Bath and Bristol branches.

I have continued to develop my skills and expertise and I am proud to have recently completed the Level 5 Management and Leadership award.

Every day presents different challenges and opportunities and I have a passion for being a resource and support to both our clients and carers.  My personal philosophy has always been to work hard to give everyone the absolute best experience of care which gives me immense satisfaction in my role.

I began adult nursing in 2004 having previously spent around 20 years as a veterinary nurse in mixed practice. Since qualifying with a Dip. HE Nursing (Adult) from Plymouth University, I have gone on to gain experience in surgical urological care, including brachytherapy and hormonal implantation for control of prostate and bladder cancers.  I also spent six years working in adult intensive and high dependency care for the NHS.  This discipline involves care of the critically unwell involving expert and close monitoring of chemically induced coma care.

Throughout my career, I have developed and maintained a passion for teaching and have coached and mentored many members of both professional and allied staff in order to reach their potential.  In my spare time, I actively volunteer for Cancer Research UK, and am Vice-Chairlady for the Bridgwater Friends branch in Somerset, which despite being small is very busy and the branch has recently celebrated raising one million pounds for the main charity.

As a Regional Clinical Lead with Prestige, I provide professional leadership and operational management to the registered nursing workforce, across the South West Region.   Working alongside our expert regional nurse team I support all aspects of complex care provision ensuring every client receives compassionate high-quality care which is evidence based and aligned with best national practice guidance.

I always knew I wanted to be a children’s nurse even when I was in primary school.  I achieved this in 2000, when I completed my Registered Nursing (Child) qualification at Kings College, London.

My first role as a nurse was at Great Ormond Street Hospital where I worked on a general neonatal surgical unit specialising in gastro-intestinal conditions.  After gaining valuable experience, I then joined two nursing agencies in London providing both support in complex care packages and various London hospitals in the private and NHS sectors on surgical and medical wards.  In 2012, I joined a Children’s Community Team in London, where I worked for seven years.  It was a hugely rewarding role, with much of my time spent providing care and treatment for children with cancer.

The experience I gained as a Children’s Community Nurse has proved invaluable in my current role at Prestige Nursing & Care in Shrewsbury as I am able to support our teams of carers and nurses, as well as the children and families we care for to ensure they get a high-quality and competent nurse-led service.

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1994 at East Surrey Hospital and as a Paediatric Nurse in 2000 at Kingston and St George’s University Hospitals. I have gained a wealth of experience in a variety of settings firstly in adult surgical nursing, then working in the outback of Australia providing paediatric nursing in the community, paediatric care in a hospice and on general paediatric wards. My areas of interest include oncology and high dependency. I have always enjoyed teaching and have been a mentor to many colleagues.

I joined Prestige in April 2018 where I have been given the opportunity to develop in my role. As the Paediatric Clinical Lead and Paediatric Safeguarding Lead for the company, I am particularly proud of the work we have done to further develop our paediatric training.

KIND WORDS FROM OUR CLIENT IN BRISTOL

CARE MANAGEMENT IN BRISTOL AND THE SOUTH WEST

Our responsive and reliable care at home service in Bristol means we can put care and support in place quickly and in many cases within 24-hours. Depending on your needs a comprehensive assessment will be conducted by either a registered nurse or our local care expert.  We can conduct the assessment at your home, in hospital or in any specialist care setting if you are awaiting discharge back to your own home, enabling a plan of care and support to be developed that meets all your needs.

Our approach to care planning, whether it is for an hourly home care service, respite care or a permanent live-in care arrangement ensures we capture all your preferences and wishes so you can live a contented life in the comfort of your own home.  We take time to find the carer that would best meet your care and support needs, making sure they are closely aligned with how you wish to live your life. Once care is in place, our team in Bristol made up of care and clinical experts provide you, your family and our carer with an abundance of on-going support, giving you peace of mind that you or your loved one is receiving the very best home care.

COST OF OUR CARE IN BRISTOL

The cost of our care is dependent on the level of care and support you require.  If you are receiving our hourly care service, the overall cost will be determined by the number of visits and frequency of visits to you at home. Our experts will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your needs at your home, or in hospital if you are awaiting discharge to truly understand what you need and therefore how much care at home will cost.

We know that the cost of our care in Bristol is very competitive when compared with other home care providers in the area.  It is worth noting that when comparing the cost of home care with a care package in a care home, that the fee you pay for home care is actually for the care and support you receive.  In a care home your weekly fee mainly covers your accommodation, food and social activities with the care package being only a small part of what you pay.

You may be entitled to either social care funding, healthcare funding or Government funding that could contribute to the cost of care at home.  If you are faced with having to finance your own home care (known as self-funding care), there are initiatives available to you, including care fees annuities or equity release schemes that could provide the funds you need for your care and support.
