We recruit to the highest standard and all our care worker training has been designed to support our professional carers and registered nurses to provide the very best care.

If you are just starting to consider a career in home care and have no prior experience, our Introduction to Care courses ensures you have the skills and know-how to provide professional in-home care services to our clients.

We take real pride in the training we provide and in supporting our professional carers to develop their skills and career. Currently, we offer training to obtain the Care Certificate, Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship Standard (Level 2) and Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship Standard (Level 3).

Shannon’s story

Shannon Lowe joined Prestige Nursing & Care in December 2017. Being new to care Shannon was enrolled onto our Care Certificate Training programme. Shannon showed true passion for care work and got on well with clients who would request her when possible. After successfully completing the course Shannon developed further by successfully completing her Level 2 Adult Care worker qualification which was supported and funded by the Prestige. As an experienced carer Shannon has been trained in many clinical specialist techniques to support with clients with complex needs, which has also supported her own development. In 2019 Shannon secured a role in the office to coordinate rosters for Derby and Nottingham and was so successful in becoming Field Care Supervisor for the branch now supporting new and current team members in the field. She plans to continue developing and completing her NVQ Level 3

WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING DO I NEED TO BECOME A CARER?

The Care Certificate

The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that health and social care staff must adhere to in their daily working life. This certificate ensures that all carers and other health and social care professionals have the introductory skills, knowledge and behaviours required to provide safe and exceptional care.

The Care Certificate is based on 15 standards, which individuals need to complete in full before they can be awarded their certificate. We provide all our carers with the training required to obtain a Care Certificate.

The 15 standards covered by the Care Certificate include:

Duty of care
Equality and diversity
Working in a person-centred way

Privacy and dignity
Fluids and nutrition
Awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities

Induction Training

We provide comprehensive training to all new starters, whether you are already qualified or new to care. This training will give you the knowledge needed to provide excellent care to the vulnerable people we look after deserve.

Before you can start working, you will need to complete learning modules that meet your needs. They will include eLearning, classroom-based teaching and shadow shifts within your chosen area of work.

If you have already completed your Care Certificate, you will need to complete 12 eLearning modules which usually take approximately six hours in total. Don’t worry – you don’t need to do them all in one sitting!

You will also need to complete three virtual training sessions which include the administration of medication, emergency procedures and moving & handling. These sessions will take approx. nine hours to complete.

If you don’t have the Care Certificate, three additional virtual sessions covering Introduction to Care, Policy Workshop and Practical Skills will need to be attended. An additional 4 e-learning modules to support the Care Certificate Programme will also need to be completed.

Shadow Training

As part of our comprehensive induction programme, we require all new starters to undertake some shadow shifts within their chosen area of work. This will allow you to work alongside one of our experienced carers and experience hands-on what providing our exceptional care looks like.

During your shadow shifts, you will have the opportunity to strengthen the skills you have acquired from our learning modules and put them into practical use with someone experienced there to guide you.

Specialised Training

If you aspire to provide specialist care to people with complex needs such as dementia or Parkinson’s, then you will require additional training. Working with people with complex medical needs requires deeper knowledge and skills to provide the very best specialist care.

At Prestige Nursing & Care, we provide expert specialist care to people with ongoing care needs or complex conditions. As your career progresses with us, we can provide additional specialist support and complex care training to you to help you achieve your goal of becoming a specialist in a specific area of care.

Continuous training and development

As a professional carer there will be plenty of support for you to develop your skills and potential with further qualifications as you gain more experience with us.

The local branch will support and ensure that training carried out is aligned with the needs of the clients, and that you have the skills required to support them. The branches will match our professional carers to clients based on their knowledge and strengths, and the more training you have undertaken the greater the variety of clients you can work with.

Jobs FAQs

What shifts or rotas are available for professional carers?

Our branches have a wide variety of hours and rotas which means it’s possible to find shifts that fit in with your life situation, whether you want a full time role or are just looking for a few hours a week. All that we ask is that you commit to the hours you can do two weeks in advance.

Do I need care experience to join?

Six months’ professional care experience is ideal - such as a domiciliary carer, care assistant, homecare worker, support worker or healthcare assistant. However, if you are new to care some branches do offer training leading to care certificates, so please contact the recruitment team to discuss on 0808 239 9716.

Do I need a driving licence?

A full clean driving is required for some roles, but not all. Job roles normally state if a driving licence is required, but if you are unsure then please contact the recruitment team on 0808 239 9716.

What pre-employment checks do you do?

To join Prestige Nursing & Care as a professional carer you will be required to apply for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, unless you are registered with the update service.

We can help you apply via your local branch. When you work with children and vulnerable adults a DBS check is a legal requirement. Find out more about DBS checks: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/disclosure-and-barring-service/about.

We also require two professional references, one of which should be your current or most recent employer.

Finally, you will be required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK, NI number, ID and proof of address. Your recruiter will talk you through all requirements and support you all the way.

What training do I need to complete before starting work?

You will need to complete both online e-learning modules and virtual training via Microsoft Teams. This is very flexible and can be completed from home as long as you have a compatible device. Find out more about the training we offer.

Is the training free?

Yes, the training is completely free.

Do you offer regular patterns of work?

Yes, our branches offer a wide variety of hours and shift patterns.

Will I be employed by Prestige Nursing & Care?

You would become a member of our team with a contract for services. You would be eligible for things like SSP and holiday, as well as a NEST workplace pension.

How old do you have to be to work as a carer?

You need to be 18 years old to join our care team and there is no upper age limit.

How often will I get paid?

We pay all our professional carers weekly.
