HAYLEY SMITH

BRANCH MANAGER, KIRKCALDY

I started working in the care sector at the age of 22 as I had always felt this was a job role that would make me feel rewarded and fulfilled. I worked for Fife Council Home Care supporting the provision of home care within the community for two years.

I then worked full time in the hospitality industry as a manager for four years, but I really missed working in care, so I decided to go back to the care industry, and I have worked with Prestige Nursing & Care in Kirkcaldy since 2014. I started as a home carer but was keen to develop professionally and move into an operational role. Prestige believed in me and gave me the opportunity to take on the role of Field Care Supervisor, then later a Care Co-ordinator before being promoted to Field Care Manager and finally to Branch Manager of Prestige Kirkcaldy.

I was keen to join Prestige as I knew, as an organisation they share the same values as I do in terms of delivering high standards of care that really make a positive different to the lives of those they care for and their families. The team in Kirkcaldy are highly supportive of each other, which encourages a motivational and positive culture where everyone is working together to succeed in providing high quality and compassionate care.

I have over 20 years management experience having worked in HMRC for 16 years as a Team Manager. Whilst employed with HMRC, in 2014 I took up a part time care in the community post and I have to say I absolutely loved the job along with the satisfaction the post gave me when caring for vulnerable adults within my own community, therefore I left HMRC in 2018 to work in care full time.

After working as a part time carer for those four years, and after I had left HMRC I was then promoted to Branch Manager in 2018 within the same care company. I have good knowledge and background in all aspects of care and management and have expertise in working with vulnerable adults within the community.

In July 2020 I joined the Prestige team as Branch Manager in Dundee. I was extremely pleased to join Prestige as they provide exceptional care which is evident by their Care Inspectorate ratings. It was very important to me to join at company that was focused on providing high standards of home care. The Dundee branch provides a variety of care, including private care, such as social care and 24 -hour complex packages. In addition to this, we also deliver contracted care for Dundee City Council.

Providing great care to those that need it is extremely important to me, which is why I undertook a position in community care for a period of time during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MAGZ CRUZ

BRANCH MANAGER, ANGUS

I started my career in the healthcare sector over 20 years ago when I had a young family as it offered me the flexibility I needed whilst raising my daughter.

My experience includes working in secure units with adults who have learning difficulties and challenging behaviour before I moved into crisis care, palliative care and then finally home care.

Crisis care was emergency, last minute services to prevent a hospital/respite admission due to a sudden decline in ill health, change in family situations or in response to adult support and protection.  I often covered clients on their return from long-term hospital stays, so that someone was with them for the first 48 hours to prevent failed discharges.

I also worked for palliative care services and trained with Macmillan Cancer Support for a short time. I often met with clients when they had just had the devastating prognosis and stayed as part of their package of care through their journey.

I have been with Prestige Nursing & Care since January 2017 where I started in a different branch in Scotland before moving to the Angus branch.  My qualifications include SVQ Level 3 in Care and D31/32 level 3 SVQ accessor.  As a Registered Manager I will soon be starting my Managers Award qualification.  I am passionate about social care and making a positive impact on peoples’ lives and whilst ensuring their families are supported.  I am supported by a fantastic team in Angus and we are all dedicated and committed to making sure our clients receive the highest standards of care whilst being able to stay in their own homes with the care they need.

I started my career as Care Assistant working with Adults with Learning Disabilities. From a teenager, I always wanted to work with children so during my training I was drawn to support those who had additional needs, did not make friends or struggled in a care or school environment.

Having spent eight years in various roles within the day service environment, I decided to progress my career in Supported Living Services so I could further champion the right support being available to people living with learning disabilities.

Between 2002 and 2018 I worked in the not-for-profit sector championing this passion and progressing my career to become the Managing Director of a learning disability support provider in the East of England. My first experience in a care home had me fixed on a career in care. I remember going to visit to look around a care home and the first resident I met used to be a dancer in London – she was such a wonderful and interesting lady. From that moment I knew that I wanted to work to support older people and I spent six years working in residential care homes prior to joining Prestige Nursing & Care.

I joined Prestige in Plymouth in 2000 as Assistant Branch Manager which really helped me to understand the management and organisational aspect of providing care at home which I loved. The opportunity arose in 2005 to become Branch Manager and shortly after I became the Registered Manager in Plymouth. Whilst at Prestige I have achieved my QCF in Level 4 in Management and Level 5 managing services to support those at end-of-life.

My heart has always been in care and I have a true passion to deliver the high standards of care that means our clients can lead a fulfilled life and their families, and our carers are supported. I am proud to be working with such a wonderful team in Plymouth, whose focus is to ensure we deliver outstanding care and communication every day. Having worked in a care home, I believe that enabling people to stay in their own home in familiar surroundings can have such a positive impact on their overall well-being – I find this very rewarding.

In 2019 I was delighted that the Plymouth team was awarded an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which was an absolute honour. It is even more special to be one of the very few home care providers in the area to achieve the highest rating.

I have worked in health and social care for over fifteen years.  My interest in care stemmed from caring for my mother who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  Watching her receive both positive and negative care experiences from a number of providers made me realise what a positive impact good care can have on an individual and their family. I knew care would be a very rewarding and fulfilling job, so I decided on a career change.

I worked for several care agencies in different areas of care to develop my skills, knowledge and understanding before becoming a home carer for a local authority.  This gave me huge job satisfaction from helping clients to remain independent whilst to enabling them to live a fulfilling life.

I went back into education and gained a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Social Care, an HNC in Social Sciences, a High National Diploma (HND) in Social Sciences, a BA in Additional Support Needs with Dementia and Autism. I then went on to complete my BA Hons in Social Sciences with Psychology and Sociology.

My studies coupled with my experience has given me a deeper understanding into client’s social and emotional needs and the impact this can have on their daily living.  I joined Prestige Nursing & Care in Cupar in January 2020 as Field Care Manager and shortly became Branch Manager.   I feel very committed to Prestige and delivering the high standards of care and support our clients and their families should expect, as well as supporting our carers.

I really loved working in the community so worked as a District Nurse for many years as I particularly enjoyed looking after people in their own homes, rather than in a hospital setting. I gained many nursing skills and lots of experience during this time across a wide range of nursing practices.

After I had my family, I started a nursing role with the leading palliative care charity, Marie Curie, providing palliative and terminal care, again for people in their own homes. It was a very rewarding job and I stayed in the role for five years until January 2020, when I felt that working nights no longer worked for me.

From 2020 I moved to work in a nursing home in a managerial position, but my heart remained in working a community setting supporting people to live well and with independence in their own homes.

I recently joined Prestige Nursing & Care as a Regional Nurse in Dartford and Chingford. I love this position as I can continue to support people in their own home, as well as train and support carers new techniques and best practice nursing care, which is incredibly rewarding.

I graduated from Birmingham City University in 2015 with a first-class honours’ degree as a RNLD Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities.

My passion for working within the learning disability field came from growing up in a family environment where my mother provided respite care to children with learning disabilities.

Upon graduating from university, I began working as a Registered Nurse at a residential school and children’s home caring for children with complex health needs who were unable to be cared for at home and otherwise would be cared for in hospital. Children’s healthcare needs I have supported include tracheostomy care, epilepsy management, postural care management, gastrostomy and gastro-jejunostomy care, peg feeding, regular suction (oral/nasal/tracheal/deep suction), physiotherapy routines and nasopharyngeal airway care. I also have experience delivering adult care to clients with mental health and challenging behaviour, acquired brain injury, chest physiotherapy and cough assist. My previous experience has given me the ability to work with a wide age range from children to elderly, with a broad range of clinical needs.

I joined Prestige in January 2020 as Regional Nurse for the East Region, where I have clinical responsibility for adult and paediatric complex healthcare needs. I also deliver team training and clinical competency assessments, completions of clinical care plans, risk assessments, auditing and liaising with professionals and families. I am also completing a BTECH certificate in Positive Behaviour Support with British Institute of Learning Difficulties (BILD) and my area of specialist interest is respiratory conditions.

I always knew I wanted to be a children’s nurse even when I was in primary school.  I achieved this in 2000, when I completed my Registered Nursing (Child) qualification at Kings College, London.

My first role as a nurse was at Great Ormond Street Hospital where I worked on a general neonatal surgical unit specialising in gastro-intestinal conditions.  After gaining valuable experience, I then joined two nursing agencies in London providing both support in complex care packages and various London hospitals in the private and NHS sectors on surgical and medical wards.  In 2012, I joined a Children’s Community Team in London, where I worked for seven years.  It was a hugely rewarding role, with much of my time spent providing care and treatment for children with cancer.

The experience I gained as a Children’s Community Nurse has proved invaluable in my current role at Prestige Nursing & Care in Shrewsbury as I am able to support our teams of carers and nurses, as well as the children and families we care for to ensure they get a high-quality and competent nurse-led service.

I am an Adult Registered Nurse, having qualified from Sheffield University in 2008 with an Adult Nursing Diploma. I continued with my studies to achieve my nursing degree in 2009. Whilst completing my studies I worked at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield on the acute medical ward supporting patients with clostridium difficile. As a new ward specifically caring for patients with this condition it was a challenging environment for me to develop my nursing skills.

I then decided to leave the NHS and joined a nursing home as Deputy Manager, caring for those with clinical needs, as well as those living with dementia. The home re-registered as a residential home, so as I wanted to continue nursing, I sought my next role.

Looking for a new challenge I relocated and took on a role as a Dialysis Nurse in Skegness, which I found hugely rewarding as it presented new challenges for me. However, I missed my family in Yorkshire so moved back in 2017 and joined Prestige Nursing & Care as a Registered Nurse supporting the North region to deliver high-quality complex care to adults and children. I feel very supported in my role at Prestige, and the team is dedicated to providing the high standards of nursing care I am passionate about.

I am an Adult Registered Nurse with over 10 years' experience, having qualified from Edge Hill University in 2010 with an Adult Nursing Diploma.

My first role as a qualified nurse was in theatre as a scrub nurse/recovery practitioner in the accident and emergency department in Aintree Hospital (Major Trauma Centre) where I worked for seven years.  This was a hugely demanding role which meant I had to think on my feet, which helped me to improve my confidence as a new nurse.

I then took a break from nursing to raise my two children.  This then led me to starting a new role on a surgical cardiothoracic ward at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, which I did for two years.  Whilst this was a very different role to my role at Aintree, I learnt so much about cardiology which I really enjoyed.

I joined Prestige Nursing & Care in 2020 as a Registered Adult Nurse in the North region where I support the team in Liverpool and Blackpool to provide high-quality complex care to adults with disabilities or life-altering conditions.   I love working with the team at Prestige – they all go over and above to ensure their clients get the very best care.

My nursing career began as a rotational general paediatric nurse in a hospital, working with babies, children and families with respiratory, neuro- rehabilitation, orthopaedic, metabolic, gastrointestinal and haematology / oncology issues.

After gaining nine years nursing experience within general paediatrics, I spent the next seven years working as a haemoglobinopathy nurse specialist for children and families with genetic blood disorders in both the community and acute setting. This made me very much aware of the impact of living with a long-term medical diagnosis for both the child and their family.

BRANCH MANAGER, DUNDEE

EMMA BONNEY

BRANCH MANAGER, PLYMOUTH

LISA TRAILL

BRANCH MANAGER, CUPAR

FELICITY JENKINS

REGISTERED NURSE

I began my nursing career over 20 years ago having qualified with a BSc Honours Degree in nursing from Luton University.

AMANDA WARDLE

REGISTERED NURSE

SARAH MASON

REGISTERED NURSE

ABIDEMI OLATEJU

REGISTERED NURSE

I have over 18 years of paediatric nursing experience gained within a variety of care and health settings, both acute and within the community.

Prior to joining Prestige, I spent two years working with children and their families with genetic metabolic conditions which is a life-limiting condition. In my role as Registered Nurse at Prestige my goal is to bring my wealth of paediatric nursing experience to help carers to provide the highest quality nurse-led care to the children we care for, whilst supporting their families.
