RGN – JOB DESCRIPTION a) Scope To assist in caring for clients in their own home or to work as a member of a nursing team in a hospital, industrial or nursing home situation. Applying professional accountability, knowledge, attitude and skills necessary to maintain a safe and competent standard of nursing practise. This involves the following responsibilities – (taken from NMC Code of Professional Conduct – November 2004) “As a registered nurse, midwife or health visitor, you are personally accountable for your practise. In caring for patients and clients, you must: 1. Respect the patient or client as an individual 2. Obtain consent before you give any treatment or care 3. Protect confidential information 4. Cooperate with others in the team 5. Maintain your professional knowledge and competence 6. Be trustworthy 7. Act to identify and minimize risk to patients and clients.” b) Reporting The RGN reports to the Branch Manager and liaises with clients and other multidisciplinary team members. c) Specific Duties 1. To provide high levels of care in line with the needs of the client. 2. To carry out clinical and risk assessments on individual clients, and to prepare Care Plans 3. To administer and record medication 4. Encourage homecare clients to remain as physically and mentally active as possible 5. In the case of death of a homecare client, note time breathing and pulse stopped, notify GP (if appropriate) next of kin and Branch Manager. d) Competence / Characteristics 1. Excellent communication skills 2. Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions 3. Flexibility – may be required to work at short notice 4. Smart appearance at all times e) Qualifications / Education 1. All qualified members must be registered with the NMC. 2. A valid and in date pin number must be held. BRANCH NURSE May 2007 JOB DESCRIPTION BRANCH NURSE a) Scope To provide administrative and nursing support to the Branch Manager on all clinical and professional aspects of the business. This involves the following major responsibilities; 1. Recruitment and selection of qualified nurses. 2. Checking NMC pin numbers are valid. 3. Receiving bookings from clients and placing members. 4. Professional guidance to the Branch Manager and to members. 5. To carry out clinical and risk assessments on individual clients and prepare care plans. 6. To maintain accurate records. 7. Supervision of qualified members. b) Reporting The Branch RN reports to the Branch Manager. c) Specific Duties The Branch RN’s duties will include: 1. Interviewing of qualified nurses and carers. 2. Ensuring all relevant documentation is completed and references are satisfactory in relation to the company recruitment and selection procedures. 3. The yearly appraisal of qualified members. 4. To conduct clinical and risk assessments. 5. Assistance with branch administration where required. 6. Participate/conduct disciplinary hearings as appropriate. 7. Any other duties as required by the business. BRANCH NURSE May 2007 d) Key factors to success 1. Act always in such a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and well being of all clients, members and the Company. 2. Maintain high quality customer service. 3. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality. 4. Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions. e) Competence / Characteristics 1. Computer literate in Microsoft Word. 2. Ability to work on own initiative. 3. Excellent administration skills. 4. Ability to prioritise tasks. 5. Professional and friendly disposition. 6. Smart, professional appearance. 7. Maintain and improve your professional knowledge and competence. 8. Acknowledge any limitations in your knowledge and competence that may affect your ability to perform to the agreed standards.
